Butynediol ethoxylate is a colorless to brown transparent liquid. BEO is usually sealed and stored at room temperature. It is a plating intermediate used as a plating brightener, especially as one of the long-lasting nickel plating intermediates, which can refine the grain size of the coating. It is often used in conjunction with auxiliary brighteners such as saccharin, PME, PPS, PVSS, COSS, PESS, or MOSS to enhance the brightening effect and leveling performance of the electroplating layer. In addition, BEO has also shown an influence on the surface morphology and crystal structure of cobalt deposits during the electrodeposition of nanocrystalline cobalt, which helps to form smooth deposits with a hexagonal dense packing structure with a preferred orientation of 00020002
